Pre-season air conditioning inspection – what should you know?

It takes approx. 3 minutes to read this article

Summer is fast approaching and for car owners this should mean a certain thing. It is about the necessity of performing an air conditioning service, so that moving around on warm days is always comfortable.

Air conditioning is one of the systems in a car that is really important. It increases the comfort of traveling by car during virtually every season of the year. In summer it allows efficient cooling, so that driving on warm days can be pleasant, and in spring and autumn it significantly helps in evaporation of the windows, which on rainy days can make us unnecessarily irritated.

However, an air conditioning system needs regular maintenance to work as it should. Even when it seems like everything is fine, because some faults are hard to spot. For this reason, many drivers choose to have their air conditioning serviced every spring so that their car is well prepared for the coming summer. This is not only necessary for the comfort, but also for the health of those traveling in the car.

Why is an air conditioning inspection so important?

Air conditioning is a perfect place for the development of bacteria, viruses, odors and microbes. This is because it is a warm and humid environment. For this reason, ignoring air conditioning inspections can result in the development of upper respiratory tract diseases, as well as allergies.

You can not forget about the practical aspect, which was mentioned earlier. Air conditioning allows you to travel comfortably on warm days, and also makes the windows not fogged up in the spring and autumn. As you know, good visibility means better safety, so there is no need to save on such a thing as an air conditioning inspection.

What does an air conditioning inspection look like?

The first step when performing an air conditioning inspection is to check for leaks. For this purpose, for example, nitrogen is used. When the system is leaking, this needs to be fixed. However, if everything is normal, it is time to move on to the next step.

After checking that the entire system is tight, it is time to check the level of coolant and oil, two fluids without which the air conditioner would have no right to work. A low level of refrigerant means low efficiency of the air conditioner, and lack of oil could lead to seizure of the compressor responsible for operation of the system. Additionally, it’s a good idea to check and replace the cabin filter and air conditioning filter if necessary.

Next, mechanics check that water is properly drained from the evaporator outside the car, and that it is not lingering somewhere inside, which could result in corrosion. The last steps, on the other hand, are first to check the temperature of the air conditioner, that is, whether it cools the car properly, and then to disinfect the air conditioning system. For this purpose, for example, ozone works very well, which is increasingly used by mechanics.
